The supporting lesson plan and activities explore the topic of misinformation and fake news, and present strategies for applying critical thinking when going online.
The lesson plan can be spaced out over several sessions or could be used to create a topic focus for one full day.
By the end of the lesson, ākonga will be able to:
- Explain the importance of being kind and respectful online.
- Describe how our words and actions online might make other people feel
- Identify how to get and give help if something unkind is happening online.
The lesson plan includes a variety of activities some of which are provided as individual resources, providing flexibility for you to 'pick and mix' the resources best suited to your needs. A summary of the individual resources is provided below.

- Activity that can be used individually or in pairs / small groups to identify and discuss how 'being mean' can make oneself and others feel.
Take-It-Home: Recipe For Success (TR_03_6.3)
- Designed to connect the classroom learning with the home environment; this resource can be printed for ākonga to take home and complete with friends and whānau.
