The Hōhepa Digital Citizens framework is designed to help students with learning disabilities build the skills they need to use technology safely and with confidence. Netsafe has partnered with Hōhepa Canterbury and People First to develop the framework, with support from MSD.
The updated version includes interactive online quizzes, Easy Read resources, and step-by-step learning modules that teachers, whānau and support staff can use to guide students in building their skills. These resources make digital safety practical and engaging.
The Guide to Digital Citizens module for teachers unpacks the framework in plain English to make it easy to introduce to your students.
Digital safety is about more than avoiding harm - it’s about supporting confidence, wellbeing and positive online experiences. When students feel safe online, they are better able to connect with others, learn effectively, and develop healthy habits.
