The lesson plan includes a variety of activities. some of which are provided as individual resources, providing flexibility for you to 'pick and mix' the resources best suited to your needs. A summary of the individual resources is provided below.

(Individual resources have a reference code that correlate with the details in the lesson plan.)

Worksheet: Balancing Your Hauora (TR_46_2.2)

Teacher Notes: Hauora In Hector's World (TR_46_2.3)

  • Notes to accompany the activity in the lesson plan, in which students need to identify the four dimensions of hauora in the storyline of the episode.

PowerPoint Slides: The Tech Effect (TR_46_2.4)

  • Slides and teacher notes to open a conversation about being in control of time spent online. The slides introduce brain chemistry and the reward chemical dopamine, which helps explain why Felix found it difficult to turn off his online game.

Each activity has a different balance score based on the type of activity and time spent doing it - and ākonga should also consider the penalty scores for not completing certain activities! A teacher exemplar is available to show how a finished worksheet might present.

Take-It-Home: I am Balanced (TR_46_2.7)

  • Designed to connect the classroom learning with the home environment; this resource can be printed for ākonga to take home and complete with friends and whānau.
