The supporting lesson plan and activities explore why our information is valuable online and why it's important to protect it and keep it safe.

The lesson plan can be spaced out over several sessions or could be used to create a topic focus for one full day.

By the end of the lesson, ākonga will be able to:

  • Explain what a digital footprint is.
  • Explain what consent is.
  • Describe why it is important that they are in control of what is shared about them online.

The lesson plan includes a variety of activities some of which are provided as individual resources, providing flexibility for you to 'pick and mix' the resources best suited to your needs. A summary of the individual resources is provided below.

Worksheet: My Future Footprint (TR_03_4.2)

  • Can be used individually or in pairs / small groups - this worksheet encourages ākonga to think about what their online future footprint might look like.

Take-It-Home: Whānau Footprints (TR_03_4.3)

  • Designed to connect the classroom learning with the home environment; this resource can be printed for ākonga to take home and complete with friends and whānau.
