The supporting lesson plan and activities explore the topic of misinformation and fake news, and present strategies for applying critical thinking when going online.
The lesson plan can be spaced out over several sessions or could be used to create a topic focus for one full day.
By the end of the lesson, ākonga will be able to:
- Explain that not everything online is real, truthful or factual.
- Identify what to do if they are not sure if something is real or truthful.
The lesson plan includes a variety of activities some of which are provided as individual resources, providing flexibility for you to 'pick and mix' the resources best suited to your needs. A summary of the individual resources is provided below.
(Individual resources have a reference code that correlate with the details in the lesson plan.)
Worksheet: Critical Thinking Worksheet (TR_46_5.2)
- Apply the critical thinking questions to a research question online to figure out what information can be trusted or believed.
Take-It-Home: Critical Thinking Crossword (TR_46_5.3)
