Why have we created the parent webinars?

We know that school leadership teams are often looking for ways to connect with their parents and caregivers about important topics, and this is especially true of online safety.

By proactively offering a pre-planned series of online sessions we can achieve more - we can reach more parents and caregivers more often, and we can create topic-focused webinars enabling us to dive deeper into the issues and content that matter - giving parents the freedom to pick and choose their attendance the sessions that resonate with them.

We hope these webinar sessions will make it easier for you to coordinate and communicate a valuable service for your parent community, ultimately creating strong engagement with these important topics and issues.

Scam safety for the whole family

During the summer holidays, children love staying connected with friends and family, often through chatting online and through online gaming. It’s also a great time for parents to score deals on new and second-hand Christmas gifts or gear up for the summer fun. But online scams can quickly ruin those plans. Netsafe is here to help with a free presentation for parents on how to keep your family safe from scams over summer.

This webinar is for parents of tamariki and rangatahi. We'll walk you through the common scams that target children, teens and parents, while providing practical tips and tools to help you identify scams and know what steps to take if your family is affected. This 40 min webinar will leave time for Q&A.

Whether you're looking for reassurance or exploring this topic for the first time, we invite all parents to join our friendly, judgment-free webinar.

Netsafe recently partnered with Te Mana Whakaatu (Classification Office) to commission an independent research report into online experience and its influence on youth body image in Aotearoa.

This webinar is for parents of rangatahi and will explore some insights from the research and provide practical tips and tools to give parents, and young people, more control over what and who they see as they consume social media content and use social media channels.

This is a general introduction to the topic of social media's impact on youth body image. If you are concerned about a child or loved one with regards to an eating disorder, please reach out to Eating Disorder Association of New Zealand (EDANZ) for support.
